I love going to conferences. I love the opportunity to interact with people who share my passion for education. I thrive on the discussions cultivated in these environments. After a particularly productive conference event I feel rejuvenated and excited about returning to my classroom the following day. Teachers need these opportunities to grow professionally, to hone their skills, and to stay informed on new methodologies, technology, and strategies. Unfortunately, many educators are prohibited from attending conferences due to the cost of travel, registration, and time out of the classroom. For teachers in this situation, Google has created the Education On Air Conference schedule. An On Air conference is a free, interactive seminar you can attend from anywhere with interact access. This fall’s schedule includes topics such as: flipped classrooms , using Google Tools, digital literacy, and dozens more. The event usually consists of several participants and the host on video chat with the remaining attendees interacting through a live chat. Participants can generally contact the host to request a video slot, but any comments made in the live chat can be addressed by the host as they are posted. Another cool feature is that the video from the hangout will be archived on youtube so you can watch at a later date or even go back and watch an event you may have missed.
All you need to register is a Google+ account. These accounts are free and easy to create. Simply go to https://plus.google.com/ and sign up. Once you establish a page click on the “more’ link toward the bottom of the toolbar along the left side of the screen, hangouts will be an option. You can browse upcoming hangout events. You can even create your own hangout and video chat with friends on Google+. Feel free to add me to your circle
